Airway &
Sleep
When breathing during sleep is disrupted, the consequences ripple through every system in the body. Speech-language pathology offers a non-invasive, evidence-based path to lasting improvement.
What Is Airway & Sleep Therapy?
Sleep-disordered breathing includes snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome, and obstructive sleep apnea. While CPAP and dental devices are common treatments, they address symptoms — not the underlying muscular dysfunction.
Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) targets the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and soft palate. Strengthening and retraining these muscles can reduce airway collapse during sleep, improving oxygen saturation and sleep quality.
As a complement to medical or dental treatment — or as a standalone intervention for mild cases — OMT for airway and sleep is supported by a growing body of clinical research.
